The Overstory Cover Redesign and Promotion

A key message derived from Richard Power's "The Overstory" is the interconnection between humans and trees – more specifically, how our actions have a lasting impact on the beings around us. Taking this message as the key creative direction, the book cover and its promotional materials all reflects this. In summary, this concept is shown through:

1. Book Cover: Blending of tree texture to fingerprints from front to back; matte finish allows for fingerprint stains after readers interact (pick up the book) with it
2. Bookmark Tree Installation: The installation invites audience to pick up the bookmark leaves for their own use, while visualising the progressive dying of the trees.
Design Decisions: Explaining the layout and concept of the redesigned cover
Concept of Book Cover, Poster, Installation and Storyboard:
Interconnection between humans and trees, and how the former's actions have lasting impacts on the latter. This is reiterated through interactivity and experiential design.
Summary of Design Process:
1. Research: Industry research (book covers within the genre and for inspiration)
2. Ideation: Brain-dumping and sketches based on 3 main concepts of the book
3. Research: Style and artist research based on the shortlisted concept
4. Iterations: Experimentation on colours, type, and different mediums
5. Marketing: Translating the same concept across various mediums for marketing
